Molekule’s R&D and Nano-filter production are both US based. Other components of the device are manufactured with top tier manufacturers in Asia.

Does Molekule monitor air quality?

Molekule monitors the time it takes to completely cycle and clean all of the air in your room. As more Molekule devices get out in the field, Molekule’s algorithms will be smarter in determining and reporting each localities air quality.

How does the auto-mode work?

There are three modes of operation for a Molekule device: Silent, Boost and Auto. Silent mode maximizes quiet, but efficient operation, while Boost allows for the room air to be cleaned extremely quickly. Auto mode does the thinking for you, depending on the room size and type of household (number of pets, size of the room, etc.); we ensure the device delivers the cleanest possible air. This means the device determines when the room air needs a quick and efficient clean and when it can throttle down to maintaining the room air quality.

Our device does not require a smartphone or tablet for operation. Enabling these features will allow for remote control of your device, when you are away.

What features are avalable in Molekule's app?

The Molekule app reports metrics for each cleaning cycle like the total room air cleaned and time remaining until cleaning cycle is complete. Molekule’s app also allows for you to select different modes of operation for the device: Silent, Boost, and Auto. The app reports remaining filter life for both of the filters. Over time the app will increase in intelligence to report surrounding air quality metrics (both indoors and outdoors).

Is the app available for all smartphones and devices?

The mobile app will be launching for iOS and the Android version will be available soon after.

Will Molekule integrate with other Smart Home devices?

Currently, there are no featured integrations at launch but the device is capable and we will make announcements as soon as the integrations are implemented.

What is the noise level of Molekule?

Molekule is extremely quiet compared to other air purifiers. The device has three different settings. These are Boost, Auto, and Silent. 1) Boost setting: We have measured a noise level of 55 dBA in Boost- this is roughly equivalent to a floor fan on high. 2) Auto setting: The Auto setting varies depending on input by the user. Our app will take information from the user regarding the room size, number of inhabitants, pets, and create a setting best tailored for the variables. This auto setting can be updated via our app for seamless performance changes. You can expect a dBA range of 40-46 dBA depending on the variables noted above. This noise level is equivalent to the hum of a refrigerator. 3) Silent setting: The Silent setting is purposefully made to run quietly. This mode should run at 30-35 dBA. This range is equivalent to a low whisper.

Will Molekule integrate into my existing HVAC system?

Currently, Molekule is available as a standalone portable unit only, convenient for your homes offices and living spaces. We do not integrate into your existing HVAC systems.

How frequently do I need to replace filters?

The rate of filter replacement would depend on your household - ambient air pollution levels, number of family members, pets and so on. However, on average the nano-filter needs to be changed every year and the pre-filter needs to be changed every 3 months. Sensors inside our device determine when filters need to be replaced (so that it is customized to your home environment and usage). With our automatic filter replacements, we can automatically ship replacement filters right when you need them. For $99 per year, we will include all of the filters your device needs.

How large of a area does a single Molekule unit cover?

Molekule is able to cover up to 600 sq ft. We highly recommend that you place the device in region in your home where you spend the most time. Studies have shown that you can maximize the effect of an air purifier by placing it close to your bedside at night. This is known as the 'sleep breathing zone'. The air you breath at night while sleeping is critical to helping you wake up refreshed and ready to go in the mornings.

Will Molekule work with my power outlet?

Molekule is designed for North American outlets. Molekule accepts a wide array of power inputs and can adapt to most foreign outlets by using a power socket adapter. The Molekule air purifier accepts an input voltage of 100 - 240 Vac and an input frequency of 50 - 60 Hz

Questions

How do I know if I need an air purifier?

Air quality is an issue that can effect everyone, not just those who suffer from allergies and asthma. However, for people who suffer from allergies and asthma, the quality of the air can have a very immediate impact on your health and how you feel. Even for those who do not have allergies or asthma, studies have shown a wide variety of health issues can be caused by poor air quality. This includes things like fatigue, headaches, congestion, nasuea, dizziness, and sneezing. In today's modern buildings we often find gaseous chemicals that are carcinogenic: VOCs. These can not only be harmful in the short term, but can have risks for your long term health as well. Evaluate your symptoms and if you can the air quality of your building. If it doesn't feel right, you may need an air purifier.

How bad is air pollution?

The EPA states that indoor air can be up to 5 times and in some cases even 100 times worse than the outdoors. In our IAQ white paper, we detail the results of a number of health studies done on the affects of indoor air pollution and human health. See here for more: http://molekule.com/news#white-papers

How can outdoor pollution affect the air quality indoors?

Air handling systems pull in pollutants from the outdoors, once indoors these pollutants can easily get trapped. In fact, the more we seal our homes (to be more energy efficient) the more likely pollutants are to get trapped. This is why in many cases, indoor air can be up to 5 times and in some cases even 100 times worse than the outdoors.

What is PECO?

PECO, or Photoelectrochemical Oxidation, is a type oxidation process that breaks down pollutants extremely quickly. This process works by shining light on an electrochemical cell. Much like when you shine light on a solar photovoltaic cell and it generates electricity, the PECO process uses the same principles to shine light on a electrochemical cell to generate a chemical reaction that breaks down pollutants. You can learn about the deep science behind the technology here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photoelectrochemical_oxidation

Are there byproducts released into the air?

We have had extensive test done by third parties to ensure that all of the destruction of pollutants by Molekule is contained within the Molekule system. The byproducts of Molekule's system are trace amounts of water, carbon dioxide and trace elements (like elemental Nitrogen), which are all safe to breathe. Because PECO (Molekule's underlying technology) is so efficient at destroying pollutants on our nano-coated filter, it does not release any intermediates of the reaction into the air. These results have been tested by the University of Minnesota Particle Calibration Laboratory and the University of South Florida Center for Biological Defense. This process also does not use ozone to break down pollutants and in fact the PECO system has been tested by the University of Minnesota’s Particle Calibration Laboratory to show that it breaks down and eliminates ozone (a lung irritant).

Should I be concerned about the chemicals in the nano-coating?

Our special Nano-coating is nontoxic. Deeply embedded within the fabric fibers of our filters, all of this coating remains in our system on our filter fabric.

I already have an air purifier, why do I need Molekule?

Current air purifiers rely on HEPA and Carbon Filters, and yet the EPA still states the indoor air can be up to 5 times more polluted than the outdoors. These air purifiers have been unable to move the needle on indoor air quality, since they rely on capturing pollutants, where they can easily mix back into the air. By completely eliminating pollutants, Molekule’s air purifier has already shown significant reduction in total symptoms for allergy sufferers, beyond what current HEPA and Carbon technologies have been able to show.

What is the difference between Molekule and other air purifiers on the market?

Current air purifiers rely on capturing pollutants on filters, whereas Molekule completely eliminaties them. Pollutants caught by current filters (HEPA and Carbon) can easily get mixed back into the air, but because the PECO process doesn’t rely on capturing but eliminating, pollutants are permanently removed before they cause problems.

Does the Molekule work on PM 2.5 pollution?

Yes. Because Molekule's nano-coating is on a filter, it is able to capture the ultrafine particles in the air and even destroy the most microscopic of the PM 2.5 pollutants.

Does Molekule help take care of larger particles like dust, pet dander, and pollen?

Yes. Because of the dual filtration inside of Molekule, both the pre-fitler and nano-filter are able to remove larger visible particles in the air like dust, pet dander, and pollen.

Does it get rid of odors?

Yes. Odors can come from many different sources (chemicals, mold, and people) and people have varying levels of sensitivity to these odors. Our product breaks VOCs, mold, and bacteria down so that they no longer exist, and eliminates these odors.

Does the device produce Ozone?

No. We have had extensive tests done on Molekule's technology to measure ozone concentrations. What we found was that Molekule does not produce ozone and it also helps to reduce ozone in the air, making your air completely safe to breathe. These results were verified by third party independent laboratory: Unviersity of Minesota Particle Calibration Laboratory.

Does Molekule work against cigarette smoke?

Our product has shown that many organic chemicals in secondhand smoke (e.g., acetaldehyde, formaldehyde) are eliminated successfully BY PECO, but we have not directly tested the elimination of secondhand smoke.
