Molekule Air Mini is the next step in our mission to bring truly clean air into every room, in any home. With the arrival of a second product, a natural question emerges about whether the new product is better than the original for the living spaces in your home.
Below, you will find different home situations and our product recommendations to meet various needs in a household. This can range from using one device in one room versus another, or bundling the original Molekule Air with Molekule Air Mini to fit into an entire home solution.
Which is better? Molekule Air Mini (new) or Molekule Air (original)
When it comes to choosing Molekule Air Mini or Molekule Air, determining which one is better for your home typically comes down to room size or how you prefer to use the device in your living space. First, Molekule Air is ideal for larger rooms (up to 600 square feet), such as master bedrooms, living rooms and family rooms. Molekule Air Mini was designed for smaller rooms of up to 250 square feet, and could be better for studio apartments, kids’ bedrooms and home offices.
If you tend to spend a lot of time in a smaller room such as your home office, and would like to use it primarily in that room, Molekule Air Mini may be a good choice. Another example is if you spend the most time at home in the evening or at night, you may want to consider the right device for the square footage of your master bedroom or living room. The original Molekule Air is ideal for larger rooms.
When it comes to the power of the technology, Molekule Air Mini contains the same, claims-backed PECO technology that is inside Molekule Air. Both Molekule Air Mini and Molekule Air use a patented PECO-Filter, which is coated with our proprietary catalyst and breaks down VOCs, bacteria, mold, viruses, allergens and other pollutants at a molecular level when activated by light. PECO destroys pollutants, unlike traditional air filters like HEPA that trap pollutants.
What features of Molekule Air Mini are better than the original for your room?
Both products were designed to be elegant, quiet and energy-efficient, providing truly clean air for you and your household. While Molekule Air Mini and Molekule Air will both do an excellent job of purifying the air in your space, the “better features” comparison may simply come down to the indoor space where you spend most of your time.
Room usage: Though Molekule air purifiers will work in any room, the size of the room is a consideration. As mentioned above, if you would like to place a unit in a smaller room of up to 250 square feet, such as a kids’ bedroom, then Molekule Air Mini may be ideal. Molekule Air would do well in a large master bedroom, as it can replace the air in a 600 square foot room once an hour.
Placement of device: In order to maximize air intake, Molekule Air Mini should be placed on a shelf, stand or table, which may lend itself to a particular room versus another in your home. For bedrooms, we recommend placing Molekule air purifiers close to the bedside at night. When Molekule air purifiers clean the air in what is known as the “sleep breathing zone,” it can help you wake up feeling refreshed and ready to go in the morning, as research has indicated (Sublett, 2011).
Light sensitivity: As a part of PECO technology, both Molekule Air Mini and Molekule Air use low-energy ultraviolet (UV-A) light to initiate the catalytic reaction that destroys pollutants. When Molekule Air is running, visible blue light is emitted at the top of the device after this ultraviolet light is absorbed by the filter. This blue light is significantly less visible on the Molekule Air Mini, though it is still a part of the product design and required for PECO technology to work.
For those who are light sensitive, Molekule Air features “Dark Mode,” which can temporarily turn off the blue light (though we recommend turning “Dark Mode” off once it is no longer needed, as the light is required for the catalytic reaction of PECO to occur).
Device interface: Molekule Air Mini has an easy and convenient one-touch button device interface and five speeds to select from. In terms of a “set-it-and-forget-it” mindset, some customers may wish to select a speed of 2 (our recommendation to maintain clean air) and simply place on a bookshelf, nightstand or table, leaving Molekule Air Mini to maintain air quality all day without having to select different modes.
Conversely, Molekule Air contains an LED display, with a device menu that allows for mode selection (Silent, Auto, Boost and Dark Mode). You can also select from three room sizes: Small (200 sq. ft.), Medium (200–400 sq. ft.) or Large (over 400 sq. ft.). The modes (either Silent, Auto, or Boost) will correspond to this room size, equating to a total of nine fan speeds. Customers also have the option to download Molekule’s mobile app for device control and filter usage with Molekule Air, though it does not require the app to clean the air.
Pricing: Molekule Air Mini is available at $399 (as low as $0 down and $33/month for those that qualify with our finance partner, Affirm) and Molekule Air is available at $799 (starting at $45/month, also with Affirm). For those wondering which of our products has better pricing, our recommendation is always to look at the actual needs of the space and size of the room you want to purify the air.
Complementing each other (Molekule Air and Molekule Air Mini)
Purchasing a separate Molekule air purifier for rooms that need one is a good option to help ensure clean air throughout your home, especially in very large spaces. Molekule Airs and Molekule Air Minis can be bundled together to fit into an entire home solution. For example, to accommodate for larger rooms of about 850 square feet or open floor plans, Molekule Air and Molekule Air Mini can work together. You can also use Molekule Air in one room and Molekule Air Mini in another, based on the size of the rooms. Additional air purifiers increase your coverage and are great where people may spend a lot of time.
Bundles are available at discounted prices, starting with Molekule Air and Molekule Air Mini for as low as $72/month starting at 0% APR with Affirm.
In conclusion: Is Molekule Air Mini better than the original?
As discussed above, Molekule Air Mini or Molekule Air may be better suited for use in one room versus another (e.g., large room vs. a small room), or to meet different needs in a household. We recommend choosing based on room sizing and preferred usage, or bundling the two devices together.
